Job Summary:

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has a 1.0 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).

Under the direction of full-time transplant hepatology faculty, this position provides outpatient medical services at the University of Colorado Hospital in the Liver Transplant Clinic as well as outreach clinics in the Denver metro area and mountain west region and telehealth across Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico.

The primary function of the position includes post-liver transplant management more than 90 days after transplant.

This would include immunosuppression management.

Additional responsibilities include lab review with nurse coordinators and clinical and medication management.

Clinical duties include:

  • Discussions with patients regarding information about post-transplant care.

  • Reviewing medical records to determine appropriate for clinic.
  • Review outside diagnostic tests and pathology/cytology as needed.
  • Prescribing medications as needed, including post-procedure medications.
  • Conducting peer to peer view or writing medical necessity letters with insurance companies for pre-authorization of tests as appropriate.
  • Speaking with referring physicians regarding patient management post-transplant
  • Independently seeing patients in follow up as needed.
  • Contacting referring physicians /PCP for any other medical issues that may have been discovered.
  • Tracking patient outcomes/data.
  • Attending liver selection conference, pathology conference and hepatobiliary conference weekly.
  • Daily lab review with nurse coordinators.
  • Typical Working Conditions: This is a clinic-based practice.

    There may be exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to the clinical environment.

    Work Location:

    This role is expected to work both at the University of Colorado main campus, Lone Tree site in south Denver, Loveland site, and outreach clinics in Albuquerque and Grand Junction.
