Job description

Position Summary
The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University invites applications for a part-time, 30% appointment, instructor position to teach one section of FW410, Upland Ecosystems Management for Spring 2026.

The department will also consider hiring two co-instructors for this teaching assignment, with 2 part-time 15% appointments.

This is a 5-month fixed term Instructor with a 100% teaching assignment.

The position start date is anticipated to be January 1, 2026; the position end date is anticipated to be May 31, 2026.

The FW410, Upland Ecosystem Management course typically has an enrollment of approximately 50 upper-level undergraduate students.

It is required of undergraduates pursuing the Wildlife Biology and Management major and is a curricular option for other FW majors.

The course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:20 AM – 11:10 AM (lecture), and 3:00 PM – 5:50 PM (recitation) on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Department will pay a single instructor $13,000 for the semester for teaching this class ($2,600 per month for Jan.

- May).

If the department hires two co-instructors for this teaching assignment, the department will pay each instructor $6,500 for the semester ($1,300 per month for Jan.

– May).

The successful candidate would ideally have training and professional experience in wildlife ecology and management, including familiarity with habitat assessment, ecology of upland ecosystems, and practices for managing game and non-game species in these ecosystems.

The successful candidate should be passionate about undergraduate teaching.
