Instructor for Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications, GCI


Salary and Benefits:

  • NEW Increased Salary schedule for the 2025-2026 school year with salaries ranging from $38,372 (
  • Benefits: We offer five different health plans along with dental, vision, life, and disability insurance after one full day of employment.

    Employees are offered flexible savings (FSA) or healthcare savings (HSA) accounts based on elected medical plan.

    Role and Essential Duties:


    The GISD Instructor for Computer Systems Networking & Telecommunications is responsible for leading the instructional program and implementing activities for high school students working toward careers in computer systems networking & telecommunications.

    The instructor is responsible for meeting the unique needs of the students assigned to the program and prepares students for careers in computer systems networking & telecommunications professions.

    Key responsibilities include:


    1.

    Teaches the state approved standards for CIP Code 11.0901.

    2.

    Divides the course content into 12 segments.

    3.

    Delivers instruction in all 12 segments during the first year.

    4.

    Completes crosswalks for all foundation skills.

    5.

    Organizes and facilitates a minimum of 2 advisory committee meetings each year.

    6.

    Provides a work-based experience for each student each year.

    7.

    Provides CTSO experiences for all students.

    8.

    Update the CIP Self-review each year.

    9.

    Updates/revises curriculum each year.

    10.

    Keep teacher certification current through local, state and national professional development opportunities.

    11.

    Use Career and Technical Education Management Application software (CATEMA) for articulation.

    12.

    Assesses and measures student growth.

    13.

    Follows GISD procedures and policies for classroom management and safety.

    14.

    Assumes responsibility for classroom materials, equipment and facility.

    15.

    Attend Career-Technical Education Area Center functions and events.

    16.

    Consistently models Win-Win leadership.


    Other Duties:

    1.

    Actively participates on the school improvement team.

    2.

    Represents Genesee Intermediate School District at various local, regional and state functions.

    3.

    Participate in graduation and awards programs.

    4.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.


    Qualifications and Experience:


    Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

    Valid Michigan vocational certification in related pathway or be eligible for Interim Occupational Certificate with bachelor’s degree and a minimum 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the field within the past six years.


    Experience: Minimum three (3) years successful teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.


    Work Schedule:

  • Schedule averages 7.0 hours per day, 186 days per year (Academic Calendar).
  • Skills/Other:


    Must meet State of Michigan Department of Human Services Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Clearance as applicable.

    Ability to accept supervision and directing.

    Ability to work creatively and skillfully with students.

    Communicate effectively with students.

    Ability to utilize district technology and work to main proficiency, as required skills sets change with technology and/or needs of the district.

    Present a professional self-image.

    Communicate professionally, effectively and in a timely fashion.

    Exhibit dependability.

    Interact positively with parents, caregivers and team members.

    Cooperate with other staff.

    Follow district health and safety procedures.

    Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implement established behavior improvement intervention plans and perform the essential job duties.

    Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position.

    Demonstrate honesty integrity, and professionalism at all times.

    Exhibit emotional stability, exercise good judgement and make decision in accordance with board and established administrative guidelines.
