Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedInstructor/Assistant Professor – Teaching, Department of Accountingat its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

The Department of Accounting at Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business is seeking to fill a non-tenured track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor – Teaching, beginning Fall 2026.

+ Candidates are expected to teach four undergraduate or graduate accounting courses per semester, manage assessments, monitor student progress using the Learning Management System (Canvas), and maintain and update curriculum to ensure it remains current, effective, and aligned with course and program competencies.

Instruction may be delivered in classroom, online, and/or hybrid formats.

+ The selected candidate is also expected to be an actively engaged member of the Mike Ilitch School of Business community.

The typical teaching load is four courses in both the fall and winter semesters.

Qualifications:

+ Candidates should hold a graduate degree (e.g., MSA, MBA, or PhD).

Those with a PhD in Accounting will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor – Teaching.

A CPA or other relevant professional certification is highly desirable.

+ A minimum of three years of accounting teaching experience, including at the graduate level, is required.

Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a clear commitment to supporting student learning and development.

Desirable education and experience:

+ Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, maintaining faculty qualifications in accordance with AACSB standards, and actively participating in teaching-focused service.

+ Flexibility in teaching areas, including financial, managerial, and taxation fields, with in-person and online teaching formats.

+ Management of learning activities at the college level and contribution to initiatives that support the program’s growth and mission.

Mentoring students is also an essential component of the role.
