Position Function:
The function of the Intermittent Staff/ MMESC Special Projects Service Deliverer
is to organize and facilitate MMESC Special Projects being held at the specified sites in the state of Mississippi, including, but not limited to, after school programs, summer programs, and parental involvement activities.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Department Profile:
The Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center sets out to ensure that migrant students and youth receive appropriate educational services to enable them to achieve high academic standards by overcoming the obstacles created by cultural and language differences and the educational disruption stemming from frequent moves.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following examples are illustrations only of the various duties that will be assigned to the Intermittent Staff/Teacher Migrant Education Program Special Projects Service Deliverer:
o Travel extensively across the state to teach migrant students.
o Attend Professional Development Trainings given by MMESC Staff to increase competency and to ensure rigor and integrity of educational programs.
o Work with parents and MMESC Projects Coordinator to guarantee that children are being transported safely on a daily basis to program sites.
o Ensure that all supplies/technology are secured at each program site.
o Maintain accurate records of daily activity within a program.
o Provide support and instruction for all migrant students in MMESC programs.
o Provide direct and specific academic assistance to assigned migrant students.
o Be responsible for maintaining records on each student who is being tutored, including pre/post and periodic assessments.
o Provide evaluations and other reports as requested by the MMESC Staff.
o Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
o Help students develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or fear of
failure in academic work.
o Help students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas.
o Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in
improving academic capabilities in designated areas.
o Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
o Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned student(s).
o Serve as a role model for students being served.
o Design and implement cooperative learning projects.
o Develop daily lesson plans in order to produce a comprehensive curriculum that details the structure and performance of the respective program.
o Attend a concluding Professional Development Session wherein all Tutors can present and share their comprehensive program curriculum in order to ensure the rigor and consistent effectiveness of each program throughout the state.
o Contact and work with parents whenever needed or instructed by MMESC Staff.
o Obtain parent signatures on program permission/consent forms.
o Transport families to parent meetings if necessary
o Organize a parent event during a program to promote interaction between students and parents in conjunction with and supervision from the Parental Involvement Coordinator.
o Foster and promote parent involvement by organizing activities that are in a language and format, including time of day and location, which is comprehensible to and convenient for parents of students in the programs.
o Assist MMESC Staff in designing service delivery by accurately assessing and effectively communicating the needs of the target population, students and parents.
o Travel to homes of migrant families to deliver educational services as needed or meet at local libraries with them.
Minimum Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s Degree OR any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education will be considered by the Department of Human Resources Management at Mississippi State University.
o State certified teachers preferred, but non-certified, paraprofessionals accepted
o Kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school or university teaching experience.
o Knowledge of the Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center.
o Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both written and orally
o Ability to work independently identifying and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
o Experience working with students, parents, university administrators, and teachers.
o Experience with migrant and minority populations.
o Experience working with computers and educational software.
o Valid Driver’s License and the ability to travel as required during performance of assigned tasks.
o Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
o Basic knowledge of curricular programs and organizational structures within the state.
o Basic knowledge of educational, social, and cultural barriers of migrants, and the ability to effectively relate to migrants.
o Basic Awareness of the contrast of the socio-cultural characteristics of the school and migrant populations.
o Basic knowledge of state agencies and community service organizations that serve migrant and seasonal farm workers.
o TESOL Certification, or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.
o Proficient to adequate Spanish skills preferred, but not mandatory.
o Experience with and dedication to service with others.

*Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds
*Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically
*Hearing requirements: Heavy telephone contact requires ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
