The Interpretive Content Editor, part of the Curatorial Services section, helps to educate the public by providing editorial services for 27 historic sites in the division through writing, reviewing, and editing publications, exhibit text, promotional materials, web content, and more.
The position conducts some historic research, writes reports for the Division and the various historic sites, maintains statistics on visitation and special events, and maintains and administers the division’s research library.
Bachelor's degree in history or a degree specific to the area of specialization required from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in a historical agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough knowledge of North Carolina, southern, and/or American history with experience utilizing both published and unpublished historical resources is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with copyright regulations and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, composition, and style with experience in editing and proofreading.
Demonstrated experience editing historical documents or history-related publications.
The Curatorial Services section connects people to North Carolina’s history by supporting the interpretive offerings of the Division.
The section comprises a team of eleven staff members in four branches: Education, Design, Collections, and Editorial.
The Division of State Historic Sites coordinates the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources’ State Historic Sites Program, which includes 27 historic sites across North Carolina and Division offices located in Raleigh.
