Position Summary The
Equipment Specialist delivers on-site service and support for PerkinElmer and/or multivendor laboratory products.
This role focuses on
preventive maintenance, troubleshooting minor issues, performing calibrations, and ensuring post-maintenance functionality.
The Equipment Specialist serves as the
primary on-site representative of PerkinElmer, upholding high standards of customer service, professionalism, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance for contract customers.
- Complete all service activities within the prescribed time frame and performance standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor equipment issues; perform testing and calibration after maintenance.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including dispatch, inventory, and service records.
- Upload/download required data to ensure integrity of service systems.
- Manage assigned company assets (tools, test equipment, service parts, telecommunications devices, etc.).
- Maintain proper inventory levels and accurate records.
- Demonstrate knowledge of service agreements to ensure proper billing and compliance.
- Promote additional products and services (training, consumables, software, etc.) as appropriate.
- Continuously develop technical and soft skills through company-provided training and certifications.
- Exhibit strong communication and collaboration with peers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Complete all required administrative and compliance tasks (time reporting, LMS trainings, etc.).
- Safely travel as needed; a valid driver's license is required.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline including military experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree (technical discipline preferred).
- Experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or facilities maintenance.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Exposure to analytical instruments or laboratory environments.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
- Completion of OEM or company-specific equipment training.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work under time constraints.
- Comfortable working with electrical, chemical, radiologic, or biologic hazards while observing universal precautions.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and use hands for handling tools or instruments.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

- Technical background with strong mechanical or electronic aptitude.
- Tech-savvy and quick to learn new systems and tools.
- Adaptable and self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly in a hands-on environment.
Nice-to-Haves
- Previous experience in a similar role (equipment maintenance or lab support).
- Lab bench or sample processing experience (Processing Chemist, Sample Processor, etc.).
- Biotech or life sciences experience (e.g., Thermo Fisher, CBRE, RENOVO).
