Position Summary
SRL is the national reference laboratory for Sonic Healthcare USA.

The Junior Core Lab Development Scientist is responsible for conducting research and development of new assays in a reference laboratory setting.
This position works closely with the Core Scientific Director, R&D Scientist, and Senior R&D Scientist to maintain launched assays throughout their production life including transition of current assays on replacement instrument platforms, assist/conduct verification/validation studies of novel assays in the core laboratory, and assist/lead special projects as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist/Conduct research and development of new assays in the Core LabAssists/Coordinates with manufacturers and other laboratories for validation/verification materialsAssists/performs validation/verification studies by conducting runs and collecting dataAssists/Insures proper LIS build, instrument interfacing, and results reportingAssists/Composes validation plans, summaries, and standard operating proceduresAdheres to defined time line for development of assaysMaintain launched assays throughout production lifeTransitions current assays on replacement instrument platformsTransitions current assay across different reagents with identical methodologiesUtilizes technical skills/abilities to perform laboratory testing as neededAbility to competently perform moderate and high complexity testingFollows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient resultsUnderstands and operates test systems proficientlyAbility to troubleshoot test systems and take appropriate action where indicatedMaintain bench competency as assignedUtilizes job knowledge, judgment and problem solving skills to ensure qualityFollows established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentationPerforms and documents scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance on instruments while in R&D phaseIdentifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action, including supervisor notification if indicatedUnderstands and follows all safety, infection controls and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelinesParticipates in departmental quality assurance programsParticipates in the laboratory continuing education programEffectively utilizes departmental resourcesDemonstrates efficiency by performing procedures rapidly and determining priorityUtilizes appropriate supplies with minimal wasteOperates equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize downtimeUtilizes unstructured time constructivelyUtilizes personal and professional skills to promote laboratory relationsCommunicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient careMaintains and supports a service oriented relationship with affiliate labsRespects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patientsStrives to maintain a positive work environmentEnthusiastically performs miscellaneous duties with completion in a designated time frameQualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
Knowledge of basic clinical laboratory technique (e.g. ELISA, CLIA, clinical chemistry, IFA)Ability to monitor experiments, read, analyze and interpret technical reportsAbility to write accurate and concise documentsAbility to perform assays and collect dataEffectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone and computer methodsExperienced with computer software including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
Operational knowledge of complex lab instrumentationAbility to handle multiple priorities and manage stress appropriatelyPreferred:

B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science AND 3 years of pertinent laboratory experienceOR
a M.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science AND 2 year of pertinent laboratory experienceLicensure and Certifications:
Preferred: Certified as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) OR equivalent certificationScheduled Weekly Hours:
