SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Senior IT Systems Administrator (SSA), the Junior IT Systems Administrator (JSA) is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the effectiveness of IT infrastructure.

The JSA provides essential support to employees, addressing and resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and network systems.

This role is crucial in ensuring that the IT systems locations are secure, efficient, and supportive of the organization s overall goals.

This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, vendors, and partners to fully utilize the IT systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitor and manage IT assets, ensuring all equipment is up-to-date and functioning correctly.

  • Responsible for the onboarding and separation of employment processes including setting up systems for new employees and revoking access as requested.

  • Maintain existing IT documentation.

  • Assist with deployment and support of technical solutions for various project and operational needs.

  • Contribute to and maintain system standards, protocols, performance metrics, and training.

  • Collaborate with other on-site and remote support staff under the guidance of senior technical staff to achieve organizational and project goals.

  • Assist users by troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking difficulties.

  • Assist senior staff with the deployment and documentation of new systems, procedures, and solutions conducive to the continued technical development of the organization.

    May conduct user-facing IT training.

  • Install, configure, and maintain an inventory of desktops, laptops, printers, networking components, and mobile devices as well as devices in production environments.

  • At the direction of the SSA, analyze systems to determine current and future needs.

  • Assist senior staff by helping to ensure reliable and sustainable backup procedures and operations.

  • System patching: Patch servers, networking components, and workstations as assigned with software updates, managing relevant downtime communications with all internal stakeholders.

  • Install, maintain, provide support, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper network interfaces.

  • Work in all areas of the site as needed to support the operation, including the concentrator, maintenance shops, and underground work areas, to troubleshoot and deploy new technologies.

  • Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations.

    Conduct activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner.

    Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.

  • Follow and understand MSHA rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participate in safety activities.

    Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Communicate with co-workers, management, outside contractors and vendors, and employees in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    2-4 Years of Post-Secondary Education or a combination of relevant experience & IT certifications.
    Minimum 2 years of reliable IT work experience preferred.

    Juniper, VMWare, and Microsoft are preferred.
    Prior IT experience at a mine or similar industrial site is preferred.
    ANALYTICAL SKILLS
    The ability to weigh multiple solutions, assess which is optimal, and clearly communicate conclusions.
    COMPUTER SKILLS
    Required for diagnostics and configuration of infrastructure, and for organization of training in end-user application skills.
    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
    Courtesy, respect, recognition of IT s customer-centered role as a service organization, ability to negotiate, willingness to provide timely and comprehensible guidance to users, and maintenance of good working relationships with employees and vendors across the Company.
    SELF-MOTIVATED
    Initiative is necessary to keep abreast of rapidly changing technical developments and opportunities, and communication of such to the Site Controller and colleagues.
    ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS
    Required to establish and manage project needs and time commitments.

    This individual must be able to coordinate availability with colleagues and vendors to assure IT coverage to meet our schedule.
    DETAIL ORIENTED working style and ability to pivot priorities while multi-tasking are essential talents for a small IT organization supporting a growing business.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

    Good communication skills.

    Good grammar skills.
    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
    Relevant certifications in Microsoft, Juniper, and other platforms of choice should be sought and continuously maintained through testing and continuing education.

    Individual must keep reasonably current on developing technologies with potential benefit to the Company.
    Must be able to meet scheduling requirements, which includes early morning, late night, weekend, and on-call work.
    Must complete MSHA 40-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.
    Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
    Must pass post-offer background check, including criminal history.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
    This a 24-hour/7-day per week operation.

    The JSA is expected to respond to emails, calls, or text messages and be available to assist with urgent IT-related matters as they arise outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
