CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes.
Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners.
Language tutors provide support to students studying languages at UNM.
Language tutors are either native speakers or advanced language learners and can help students understand language material, improve their written and oral skills in a language, and overcome any problems in language learning.
As a member of the CTL team, student staff attend biweekly trainings focused on language content and tutoring practices, which are designed to make student staff effective facilitators of student learning.
Language tutors:
Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies in language acquisition
Provide language support through one-on-one consultationswith student learners (including in-person, online, and asynchronous/e-mail support)
Provide language support by planning and conducting conversation group sessions for small-group language learning and practice
Serve as a liaison between language departments and CTL language services
Actively participate in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities
Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
Perform administrative responsibilities per CTL and UNM guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication
Commitment to serving others through compassionate and effective support
Availability to work Monday – Friday between 9am – 5pm
Ability to provide both in-person and virtual support
Experience attending courses in the language program that will be supported
Applicants will be asked to submit a recommendation from a professor or instructor who can speak to their strengths within the language they are applying for.
