How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)
Technical Operations is seeking an accomplished leader who has environmental program management experience, and possesses a high level of accountability for achieving strategic and operational results.
Responsible for institutionalizing a culture that will enhance environmental compliance throughout Delta’s Technical Operations Division (TechOps) through strong leadership and management skills that maintain the highest degree of integrity and credibility.
This position is based in Atlanta, GA.
Travel to other TechOps locations will be required.
The successful candidate will work with a cross departmental team with a broad scope of responsibility in a complex environment.
In addition, they should have the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
+ Position will develop both tactical and strategic plans that enhance environmental compliance within the Technical Operations Division.
+ Required to identify and formulate comprehensive solutions and communicate environmental issues to all levels of leadership in multiple divisions.
+ In depth multimedia environmental knowledge, including RCRA, NPDES, storm water, air, EPCRA and CERCLA compliance.
+ Leads a team of environmental professionals.
+ Partners with maintenance business units to implement the environmental program strategy to reduce the probability and severity of environmental risks with maintenance tasks.
+ Builds relationships with maintenance business unit managers to understand their needs and help determine strategic projects to drive environmental improvements and risk reduction initiatives.
+ Develops both strategic and tactical plans that create a compliance conscious environment which results in stakeholder protection.
+ Assists with the management of the Environmental Representative program, including selection, training, and oversight.
+ Utilizes data to determine where focused improvement efforts are needed and makes decisions on actions that need to be taken to better support frontline leaders and the workforce.
+ Teaches and coaches business unit managers and frontline leaders on leadership essential behaviors for environmental sustainability.
+ Serves as a change agent to develop new actions and programs to improve environmental compliance performance.
+ Oversees the implementation of tools, processes and programs designed to reduce environmental risk in Technical Operations.
+ Develops both strategic & tactical plans that create a safety-conscious environment resulting in employee safety & well-being
+ Regularly interfaces with defined corrective actions regarding environmental compliance audits conducted internally and externally.
+ Should be able to build effective partnerships with Delta's outside contractors/business partners.
+ Provide hands on direction, support and training for station, divisional personnel and corporate partners to ensure Delta’s compliance with all environmental and other legal requirements
+ Maintains a visible presence to the operation performing site visits and engagement with management and frontline in all TOP Departments.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
+ A 4 year college degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, legal or other related field is required.
+ Ability for overnight travel up to 20% for station visits.
+ Significant knowledge of multi-media environmental rules and regulations in multiple states is required.
+ Applicants should have a strong orientation toward operational duties along with self-motivation and a high proficiency in written and verbal communication skills.
+ Should present a professional business-like image, have a high work ethic and commitment to excellence.
+ Should work well under pressure, be detail oriented, meet deadlines, and exhibit excellent organizational skills.
+ Candidate should possess exceptional computer skills with experience in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
+ Should possess sound decision-making abilities as well as analytical and organizational skills with the ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
+ Demonstrates that privacy is a priority when handling personal data.
+ Embraces a diverse set of people, thinking and styles.
+ Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
+ 5+ years of leadership experience in safety or environmental compliance is strongly preferred.
+ Advanced degree within the environmental field.
+ Airline experience is strongly preferred.
+ Certifications such as a PE, CIH, CHMM or other environmental related certifications are preferred.
+ Work experience in aircraft maintenance, operations, passenger service, air cargo or cabin service and a background in airline Industry policies and procedures are highly desirable.
