As part of our continued growth in the Transmission & Distribution sector, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead/Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team.

Position Summary:

The Lead/Senior Substation Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects that power critical infrastructure across the country.

This role involves overseeing complex technical work, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high-quality, code-compliant designs.

You will have the chance to work on high-impact, technically demanding substation projects including greenfield EHV substations up to 500kV, brownfield retrofits in congested urban sites, complex bus reconfigurations under live conditions, and integrating advanced SCADA, automation, and communication systems.

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and coordination of high-voltage substation projects (up to 500kV) through all phases from conceptual studies and preliminary design to construction documents and commissioning support.
  • Oversee the development of substation physical and electrical designs, including one-line diagrams, grounding, protection and control schemes, equipment layouts, and cable/conduit plans using Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD, AutoCAD-3D, and related tools.
  • Provide technical leadership for substation design activities, ensuring consistency with project scope, schedule, quality expectations, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients and contractors, supporting scoping meetings, progress reviews, and field issue resolution.
  • Perform and review detailed power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination, and grounding analyses using ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, CYMCAP, CDEGS and similar platforms.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, design calculations, equipment specifications, and construction packages including protection and control wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Essential Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 8+ years of experience in substation engineering, including lead-level responsibility for both physical and protection/control design on utility-scale projects
  • Proven expertise in high-voltage substation design (69kV to 500kV), with in-depth knowledge of equipment and control systems, strong understanding of laying out switchyards, electrical gear and spaces,, sizing branch circuits, laying out devices, lighting layout and circuitry including lighting controls.
  • Proficient in power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, CYME or CDEGS.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD-3D, Inventor and Revit for substation design and modeling; MicroStation or Bentley experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables
  • Experience mentoring or managing engineering teams on medium to large-scale projects
