Nursing Program Mission Statement


CI Nursing Program faculty and staff embrace justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in our aim to prepare students for nursing practice; to meet community and workforce needs through teaching professional values and care of diverse individuals and populations including Black, Indigenous, People of Color and those with intersectional differences and identities.1 This will be accomplished by engaging in respectful and honest dialogue, valuing and respecting each member of our community, and examining ourselves for biases and assumptions to increase our awareness as we build programing and curriculum to educate the next generation of nurses.

The Nursing Program aims to be an innovative, magnet center for excellence in higher nursing education through justice, equity, diversity and inclusivity.

About the Position: 

To plan, develop and teach pre-licensure Nursing Science classes in the clinical setting and the campus simulation lab.

To carry out other duties associated with lecturer responsibilities to include but not limited to: maintain accurate student records/clinical grades, coordinate clinical instruction with other faculty; coordinate student experiences with clinical personnel; maintain communications between the University and clinical agencies including annual summations meetings; participate in curriculum development; participate in AACN and BRN accreditation activities; participate in curriculum excellence by remaining current in the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and professional development.

Minimum Degree Requirements:


A Masters degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited college or university which includes courses in nursing education

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership in teaching baccalaureate-level nursing and BRN content areas.

  • Experience with teaching and student learning outcomes evaluation.

  • Possession of, or eligibility for, California RN licensure.

  • At least one year of experience teaching courses related to Maternal Child Nursing, or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.

  • At least two years of continuous full-time experience in direct patient care practice as an RN.

  • At least one year of continuous full-time experience in direct patient care practice as an RN within the last three years, or eligibility for Board of Registered Nursing approval to teach maternal newborn nursing.

  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach maternal newborn clinical nursing.

  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

  • Flexibility in teaching assignments.

  • Experience using multiple teaching modalities with a student population that includes a wide variety of multicultural learners.
  • Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include: teaching and office hours.

    Assignment may include day, evening, night, and weekend classes/clinical labs.

    California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules can be found at

    Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience.

    Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range.

    The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
