Lecturer, CC (Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response) Job Opening In Honolulu – Now Hiring University of Hawai‘i


Job description

Other Conditions:

Part-time, non-tenure track, for placement in Spring, Summer and/or Fall lecturer pool, assignments as needed, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements for East Hawaii (Hilo), West Hawaii (Kailua-Kona), and/or North Hawaii (Honokaa) campuses.

Must be able to attend meetings and trainings on short notice as well as teach courses in person, as necessary.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under general supervision, conduct lecture and as appropriate, laboratory courses in the discipline.

  • May include instructional assignment involving distance education.

  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.

  • Possible evening, weekend and off-campus assignments.

  • Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.

  • Participate in assessment of course learning outcomes.

  • Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.


  • Minimum Qualifications:
     
  • (a) Bachelor’s in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences (all Biological Sciences, General Sciences and all Physical Sciences) and 3 years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations;
  • OR (b) Associate Degree in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences (related fields include: Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, and Social work with a specialty in ECE.) and 5 years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations;
  • OR (c) 15 college credits and 7 years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations.

  • If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered.


    Desirable Qualifications:
  • Willingness to work with Running Start and Early College programs and pass required additional screening as necessary.

  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
