The Engineering for Professionals Mechanical Engineering Master's Program at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a Lecturer position to redevelop and teach EN.535.641 Mathematical Methods for Engineers.
This fully online course is offered during the spring, summer, and fall terms and typically enrolls 19 students per section.
It provides Master's-level students with a broad spectrum of mathematical techniques essential for solving advanced problems in engineering and physics.
Major topics include linear algebra, Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, probability, and statistics, with a strong emphasis on engineering applications.
Several tailored versions of EN.535.641 are offered to address the unique mathematical needs of specific focus areas within the program, including robotics, manufacturing, and materials engineering.
Responsibilities:
+ Redevelop and deliver engaging, rigorous asynchronous lectures and course materials for EN.535.641.
+ Provide weekly 1-hour online office hours to respond to students' comments and questions.
+ Provide timely feedback and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, and exams.
+ Integrate practical engineering and physics applications into the curriculum to demonstrate real-world relevance.
+ Mentor and advise students on their mastery of mathematical methods for professional and academic success.
+ Depending on interest and program needs, this role may involve teaching multiple sections (4-6 per semester) or mentoring/coordinating additional instructors delivering sections of the course.
Required Qualifications:
+ An advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
+ Demonstrated expertise in most of the following areas: linear algebra, Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, probability, and statistics.
+ A strong track record of effective teaching or relevant professional experience in higher education.

+ Background in curriculum development, including designing problem sets and projects that reflect real-world engineering and physics challenges.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective student engagement and collaboration with faculty.
+ A commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment.
Salary: $10,152 per section
