Sno-Isle Libraries isseeking an upbeat, positive, and customer service-oriented individual who enjoys engaging with the community and making a meaningful impact! This position focuses on supporting both in-person and online customer inquiries, while working with a team of librarians and managers in the creation and maintenance of community relationships.
Job Summary
The Librarian (At Large) position will have a specific focus on Youth Services Outreach, with a preference for candidates who have experience in design thinking.
Additional responsibilities include supporting system-wide initiatives and committee work, providing information services, collection maintenance, acting as Person in Charge, and developing programs and services.
This position offers system-level support to smaller community libraries and plays an active role in community engagement—building connections, fostering relationships, and delivering services, spaces, and resources that reflect diverse cultures and perspectives.
The role is important in ensuring the Library is intentionally inclusive and accessible to all, while also supporting community organizations and promoting the library.
The person will work out of the Lakewood/Smokey Point Library and will cover the North District libraries, including Arlington, Camano Island, Darrington, Lakewood Smokey Point and Stanwood.
These libraries operate with both single and multiple service points, offering a range of services tailored to their communities.
Due to the At Large nature of this position, the incumbent will be expected to travel between library locations to meet staffing needs- at times this may be with short notice.
Mileage between sites is reimbursed.
The schedule for this position may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts, including Sundays.
Flexibility is essential, as future changes to work hours and assigned locations may occur based on the evolving needs of the library system.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
The position typically reports to a community library manager, assistant manager, or the manager of a major functional area such as Information Services.
Supervision of the work of others is not a normal part of the work of these positions, but incumbents may from time to time assist in the training of other staff in library-related work.

The incumbent must identify and organize library materials such as books, audiobooks, and DVDs based on small-print numbers and alphabetical characters; move library materials including transfer of books and other items to carts or shelves of varying heights; scan and inspect library materials including opening media cases.
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent must communicate with coworkers and members of the public.
There are regular interpersonal contacts with staff members and customers.
These contacts and situations are deemed to be generally safe and free of undue stress, but require incumbents to be cordial, helpful, and skilled in interpersonal relations with others both in the public and within the Library District.
