Overview

Librarian I or II, Owens Library and Resource Center Manager

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages acquisitions activities within OLRC, overseeing the procurement of materials in various formats, such as print and digital books, monographic series, streaming video, and other resources.
  • Designs and implements effective workflows incorporating current technologies and standards.
  • Applies knowledge of professional best practices while staying current with trends in acquisitions, scholarly publishing, and academic librarianship, adapting strategies as needed.
  • Supports collections budget management by maintaining accurate acquisitions data and ensuring responsible resource stewardship.
  • Assists with fiscal transactions related to the budget and develops expenditure data to inform collection development decisions.
  • In collaboration with CED faculty, staff, and leadership, hires, trains, and evaluates student employees while coordinating workflows and ensuring clarity of responsibilities.
  • Sets performance goals aligned with Library objectives and communicates them effectively.
  • Develops training workshops on acquisition processes for team members and other library staff.
  • Collaborates with vendors and publishers to negotiate favorable terms with regard to price, accessibility, and more.

    Fosters strong working relationships.
  • Resolves issues related to orders, receiving, and payments with vendors.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with Collections Coordinators, User Services, Cataloging, Discovery and Digital Services, the Special Collections Library, and other library departments, demonstrating flexibility and cooperation.
  • Engages in library-wide planning and governance, contributing effectively to a collaborative decision-making environment.
  • Pursues research and scholarly endeavors to advance knowledge and contribute to the field.

    Participates in relevant local, national, and state-wide professional organizations.

Additional Duties

  • Integrate graduate assistants into the ORLC library workflows; assign projects; train students and support staff on ORLC processes; oversee collection and services; maintain collection policy and scope.
  • Provide front-line reference/research assistance, develop programs, etc.; select and purchase new materials based on input from the CED community; review and deselect materials; be the point of contact for book donations and disposition of items.
  • Create book displays and promotions; curate small exhibits in the ORLC display cases; collaborate with faculty to prioritize and assess collections for digitization and set workflows; pursue grants and other funding for digitization staffing.
  • Coordinate with Digital Library of Georgia and Athenaeum and CED Technology Services.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: A relevant terminal degree, such as a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Master of Historic Preservation (MHP), or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), is required.
  • Position Summary: The CED Librarian directs the Owens Library and Resource Center (OLRC) in a collaborative environment with library and IT staff.
  • Physical Demands: Typical office setting; lifting up to 20 lbs — books.

  • Security/Access: This position has security access.
  • Background and Credit: Background check required; credit check may be required for positions with financial responsibilities.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Includes knowledge of Integrated Library Management Systems (e.g., ExLibris Alma, FOLIO), metadata standards, Microsoft Office (Excel/Power BI), open access trends, and project management.

Experience and Competitive Details

  • Background in library or archival processes, management of projects, customer service, and related disciplines within the College of Environment and Design.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff; capability to work independently and collaboratively; strong attention to detail.
  • Salary ranges at 75% time: approximately $45,000-$52,500.
