Job description

Overview

The Roanoke Public Libraries are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Content Creator with experience in video and image editing.

This role is essential in strengthening RPL's brand identity through high-quality content creation and effective communication strategies.

The Content Creator will promote the library’s mission, services, programs, and collections via media-related platforms to encourage engagement and enhance use of the library.

Candidate must have own transportation and be able to travel to all library locations/events as needed.

This temporary position will require a flexible schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Familiar with the following platforms: Facebook and Instagram.
  • Incorporates national library campaigns (e.g. National Library Week) into library initiatives and content.
  • Develops content related to the library's short-term and long-term goals.
  • Must be able to adhere to the integrity of the library's brand and understand the library's message.
  • Take initiative to learn and understand what is appropriate for our audience and be versed on social media trends and platforms.
  • Photograph library events, activities, services, staff, and more for website, social media graphics, and printed material.
  • Maintain a portfolio of completed work and continuously update it with new projects.
  • Utilize Canva to create flyers and social media graphics.
  • Ensure all content meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of content publishing for social media platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of content creation and editing.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to various locations for meetings, trainings, and events as needed.
  • Strong creative vision and the ability to translate ideas into compelling visual content.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent photo and video skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and/or Experience

  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training in social media, editorial work, or marketing.

    Must have demonstrated experience in audio/video production methods.

Language Skills

Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Bi-lingual candidates are eligible for a Bilingual Employee Pay Incentive.

Proficient in editing content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall clarity.

Ability to effectively communicate ideas and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Capable of analyzing content needs and determining the best approach to meet those needs creatively.

Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in evaluating and improving content strategies to enhance engagement and reach.
