Supervisor: Events Supervisor


Hiring Range: $21.26 - $24.61/hr ($44,211 - $51,195/yr)


Union Position: Yes

Hours: Full-time, including evening and weekend hours

Position Summary


Under the supervision of the Events Supervisor, the Events Technician assists with the implementation of the Library’s system-wide events efforts.

The Technician will write and proofread written and online event information, assist AADL staff throughout the system with event and exhibit details, work with outside organizations and speakers to successfully produce AADL events and exhibits, maintain event statistics, and develop and host individual events that appeal to the community.

The Library Technician will also handle room bookings from outside organizations and the corresponding customer service.

This position includes working evening and/or weekend hours.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Writes and proofreads information about Library events and exhibits.

  • Reserves meeting rooms for outside organizations or exhibitors in the events database and handles all correspondence associated with room bookings.

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the exhibit application process, including responding to applicants, and coordinating exhibit curation in cooperation with other staff.

  • Assists in maintaining current event and exhibit information on the AADL website, both for external promotion and internal set-up and payment needs, with a strong attention to detail.

  • Assists with the logistics and organization of AADL public events and exhibits including speaker payments, room set-up information, hotel and travel arrangements, scheduling local booksellers for author events, arranging for catering for receptions, and other event details.

  • Assists AADL staff with planning and scheduling of public events and exhibits.

  • Maintains statistics related to Library programming efforts.

  • Creates events for the community, and serves as a host for these events, receptions, and other events created by AADL staff.

  • Assists with the coordination of the AADL summer game shop, prize distribution, and event codes.

  • Assists with planning large, special events or exhibits in collaboration with library staff.

  • Serves on departmental and system-wide teams and delivers related action items on schedule.

  • Works occasional shifts on public service desks system-wide, providing library service to library users in person, over the phone, via e-mail, and through social media networks.

  • Maintains a prompt and reliable attendance record.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to organize work, set priorities and handle multiple tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail.

    Must be flexible and willing to work in situations with multiple deadlines.

  • Skilled in utilizing a variety of office software applications (including database and Microsoft Office applications).

  • One to two years’ experience providing direct customer service.

  • Experience blogging and contributing to an Online Content Management System.

  • Positive attitude and strong public service commitment.

  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with visual art or exhibit installation and logistics.

  • Successful experience providing direct customer service in a public library setting.

  • Proven experience producing events or handling art exhibits for all ages.

  • Fluency in one or more non-English languages.

  • Degree from a four-year college or university in Fine Art or a related field.
