The Cimprich Laboratory in the Department of Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 (LSRP2) to be a member of a research team that studies the molecular mechanisms by which cells maintain genome stability in the context of DNA replication and transcription.

Our goal is to understand how genome maintenance pathways work and how they go awry in a variety of disease contexts (e.g. cancer, neurodegeneration, immune disorders) and in aging.

The candidate must be willing to work collaboratively with other lab members and the PI to perform more complex functions and activities in defined research projects.

They must also have good organizational and communication skills and possess the ability to learn quickly and work independently.

Significant experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques is required, and previous experience with microscopy and genomic techniques is desired, as is an interest in genome stability.

On the job training in specific techniques will be provided.

This is a terrific opportunity for a motivated, creative and reliable individual to participate in cutting edge research, contributing to lab publications and the development of new projects.

The LSRP 2 may assist in supervising and training new staff and students on techniques as necessary, and approximately 15% would be devoted to lab management duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining lab records, equipment and protocols and adhering to all Stanford safety regulations.

**Duties include:**

• Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s).

Make recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to principal investigator and collaborating lab members.
• Independently conduct complex (lab and/or field) experiments to gather data for a portion of a major research project.
• Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines exist, and make modifications to existing procedures and protocols.
• Develop new research protocols where appropriate protocols are not described in the literature or where modification or adaptation of standard procedures and protocols is required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or schools.
• Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; apply to ongoing research and development of new protocols.
• Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section, and to publication of findings.

Present ongoing work to colleagues.
• Oversee supply and equipment budget under supervision of principal investigator or business manager.
• Work with health and safety department to ensure lab complies with regulations and all required trainings.
• Supervise (either formally or informally) staff or students as needed, including oversight and direction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work.

Serve as a technical resource for other research staff.
• Oversee the daily activities of the laboratory including lab maintenance; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.

May assist with purchasing laboratory equipment.

The expected pay range for this position is $81,130 to $94,895 per annum.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
B.S. degree in Biological Sciences or other relevant field is required.

M.Sc. degree strongly desired.

At least 3 years of laboratory experience degree is after the B.S. is desired.

Proficiency with basic molecular biology techniques and cell culture.

Familiarity with genomic approaches, genome editing/cloning, microscopy and data analysis software is strongly desired.

Performance of technical procedures, interpretation of results, recognition of irregularities, recommendations for modification of techniques and approaches will be expected.

Significant experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques is required, and previous experience in genome stability, DNA replication and repair, imaging, or next-generation sequencing approaches is desired.

The candidate should be able to work independently, be highly motivated, well organized, adaptable and work well within a highly interdisciplinary and international team.

Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as fluent English are essential, as well as proficient computer skills.

The LSRP 2 must be self-motivated, a quick learner, technically adept, accurate, efficient, organized and keep detailed records.

The ability to work under tight deadlines with general guidance is essential.

The LSRP must also have good general basic computer skills and familiar with use of databases and online molecular biology tools.

In addition, the LSRP 2 must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):**

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):**
