Job description

Position Summary:
The Lighting Engineer is responsible for ensuring the successful commissioning of systems through onsite coordination with clients, troubleshooting, and testing.

This role includes collaborating with design teams to refine and implement designs, conducting designs as needed, developing software as needed, and conducting sequence implementation testing.

The Lighting Engineer ensures that all systems meet project specifications, operational requirements, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Onsite Coordination with Client:

    • Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for clients during the startup phase.

    • Communicate project status, challenges, and resolutions effectively to clients and stakeholders.

    • Address client concerns and ensure systems meet their operational needs and expectations.

  2. Onsite Troubleshooting:

    • Diagnose and resolve issues encountered during the startup and testing phases.

    • Collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors to implement effective solutions.

    • Document and report troubleshooting activities, including resolutions and recommendations for improvements.

  3. Design Coordination:

    • Work closely with design engineers to interpret and implement project designs accurately.

    • Provide feedback on design feasibility and propose refinements as needed based on field conditions including providing red line drawings for all projects.

    • Read and understand control and field drawings.

    • Conduct designs depending on current workload.

  4. Sequence Implementation Testing:

    • Execute and verify sequence of operations according to project specifications.

    • Test system functionality to ensure proper sequencing and performance under real-world conditions.

    • Identify and address discrepancies between designed sequences and actual performance.

  5. Lighting System Testing:

    • Perform comprehensive testing of input/output (I/O) devices to confirm functionality and integration.

    • Verify wiring, connections, and device configurations against project requirements.

    • Document test results and address any nonconformities through corrective actions.

    • Gain a basic understanding of systems and equipment.

    • Operate and maintain all equipment and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in electrical, mechanical, or control systems preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 2+ years of experience in system commissioning, startup, or a related technical role.

    • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and testing electrical, mechanical, or automation systems.

  • Skills:

    • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex systems.

    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.

    • Familiarity with testing tools, meters, and software used in commissioning processes.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and teams.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

    • Familiarity with relevant safety standards and protocols (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
