Stanford Libraries is seeking a full-time Preservation Analyst to join the LOCKSS Program.

**About the LOCKSS Program:**

The LOCKSS Program makes the award-winning LOCKSS distributed digital preservation software platform, used worldwide by libraries to preserve and provide authoritative access to digital content, including scholarly communications, Web archives, and institutional repositories.

It also operates digital preservation networks like the Global LOCKSS Network (GLN), delivers digital preservation services to organizations like the CLOCKSS Archive, and supports other digital preservation initiatives, all powered by the LOCKSS software.

It is an internationally recognized part of the Stanford University Libraries (SUL) portfolio, having a major programmatic impact on the operations of memory organizations globally.

**About the Position:**

The LOCKSS Preservation Analyst is responsible for tracking, managing, and reporting on the state of content processing done by the Applied Preservation Services (APS) team.

This position manages the title databases representing all the archival units across multiple LOCKSS networks, keeping the data set up-to-date and generating reports to identify and communicate status to internal and external stakeholders.

This position manages a portion of the preservation content - testing, adding and tracking the content status in the database.

The Preservation Analyst will analyze and resolve content preservation issues in cooperation and collaboration with LOCKSS Program colleagues.

Additionally, this position works with developers to identify ways to improve tracking of the growing set of data with the goal of increasing the use of automation for testing and validation.

This position will work with APS management to adapt existing workflows and testing to accommodate new preservation obligations and technologies.

Occasionally this position may cross-operate within the Digital Library Systems and Services group for digital content accessioning, web archiving, or other special projects.

**Core Duties*:**

● Identify and inventory content ready for preservation in LOCKSS networks, and process content through LOCKSS preservation and QA workflows.

● Analyze preservation data output from LOCKSS systems in order to isolate anomalies and flag issues for the Applied Preservation Services team.

● Identify and select usable data from subtle and complex data patterns.

Assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information.

● Design methods to validate data to ensure high quality product.

Explore creative approaches to using data based on technical expertise of available data.

Distribute reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management and other internal end-users and provide interpretation of data when needed.

● Collect, manage and clean datasets using an extraction and reporting programming language to ensure data integrity

● Research and reconcile data discrepancies occurring among various information systems and reports.

● Collaborate with data managers to define and implement data standards and common data elements for data collection.

● Identify new sources of data and methods to improve data collection, analysis and reporting.

● May test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

**Education and Experience:**

· Bachelor's degree and one year of experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.

**Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**

● Basic knowledge and demonstrated experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.

● Ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.

● Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.

● Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.

● Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.

● Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.

● Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.

● Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.

**Other Relevant Knowledge Skills and Abilities May Include:**

● Demonstrated experience using LOCKSS software and LOCKSS testing tools to evaluate scholarly content for preservation in a LOCKSS-based network.

● Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining and querying LOCKSS title database (TDB) files, using Git and tools maintained by the LOCKSS Program.

● Demonstrated experience supporting the preservation of scholarly communications, and familiarity with characteristics of electronic scholarly content hosting platforms.

● Knowledge of regular expressions, text mark-up languages XML and HTML and basic shell and Python scripting.

● Experience with a Unix based operating system such as Linux or MacOS X

● Excellent organizational and communication skills, and fierce attention to detail.

**Physical Requirements:**

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

● Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.

● Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.

● Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

The expected pay range for this position is $82,468 to $94,000 per annum.
