Compensation DOE: Up to $35/hr.
Hiring a Level II Magnetic Particle (MT/MPI) Inspector in Fairfield, OH to perform in-process and final inspections on firearm barrels, bolts, and other ferromagnetic components.
This role is essential in executing the HPT → MT flow (proof-fire followed by 100% MT) for both commercial and DoD lots.
You’ll work under the technical direction of the Responsible Level III and ensure compliance with all applicable standards and customer requirements.
Magnetic Particle Inspector Responsibilities:
Perform MT inspections using bench, coil, central-conductor, and yoke methods.Follow HPT → MT sequence on every barrel and bolt (commercial and DoD).Conduct daily system checks (bath concentration, equipment function, UV-A/visible light levels, magnetizing current/coverage).Interpret indications using ASTM/ASME standards and customer specifications.Demagnetize parts and verify residual fields before release.Complete documentation including travelers, defect maps/photos, and traceability records.Support calibration and preventive maintenance of MT equipment.Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and QA teams.Maintain safety, PPE, and housekeeping standards. Magnetic Particle Inspector Qualifications:
Level II MT certification per SNT-TC-1A and company-written practice.Familiarity with ASTM E3024/E3024M, ASTM E709, and ASME Section V, Article 7.Ability to read technical drawings and apply GD&T and acceptance criteria.Hands-on experience with MT benches, yokes, UV-A/visible light meters, gauss meters, and pie gauges.Current near-vision and color-vision compliance.Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Preferred:
Experience in small-arms manufacturing or defense contracts.Familiarity with ASTM E1444/E1444M or NAS-410.Additional NDT certifications (PT, VT, UT, ET Level I/II).Experience developing MT technique sheets for complex geometries. Work Environment:
Standing for extended periods; lifting parts up to ~40 lbs.Exposure to oils, particles, and reduced lighting for fluorescent MT.Overtime and weekend work may be required.ITAR/EAR compliance may apply.
