As Manager Generation Engineering, you’ll provide strategic direction, develop top talent, and lead cross-functional efforts that strengthen our competitive edge and long-term success—all while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
What you will do

Develops strategies, plans, and leadership for implementing advanced, major, and complex engineering, environmental and construction projects, and provides technical support for the reliable and efficient operation of fossil fuel, wind, solar and hydro generating units.
Directs the project, controls, reliability, and performance engineering teams.
Interfaces with generating facility management, sourcing, safety, environmental, legal, and financial and business performance to ensure that performance activities align with generating unit financial and operating objectives.
Provides technical support for the reliable and efficient operation of fossil fuel, wind, solar, and hydro generating units.
Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety, including observing and enforcing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and company safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions, and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents.
Identifies and develops innovative methods for improving project management (PM) processes and techniques while ensuring proper adherence to PM processes.
Promotes continuous improvement in all processes.
Leads engineering activities related to project portfolio management and annual operating plan development.
Directs equipment, system efficiency and process performance testing, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for efficient and reliable generation unit operation.
Directs the verification of the benefits and cost savings resulting from completed engineering projects.
Directs and supervises contractors involved in performing advanced, major, and complex construction project work.
Monitors performance and conformance to all contractual and specification requirements.
Prepares necessary documentation for obtaining authorization and permits from regulatory agencies for generating station projects and testifies at public hearings.
Keeps fully informed of related generating station state-of-the-art technology processes, systems, and equipment.
Participates in research and development (R&D) activities and partnerships.
Chairs, facilitates, coordinates, and implements generating unit programmatic initiatives and user group activities for the fleet wide standardization of technology and operating practices and procedures.
Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in engineering or related area preferred.
Certification Professional Engineer certification preferred.
Required Experience
5 years of related experience.
3 years supervisory experience or equivalent.
(Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)
Other Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the theory and application of business planning processes, including identifying industry trends and directions, developing and implementing engineering programs and strategies to satisfy customer's present and future needs.
Thorough knowledge of electric and steam generation industry, plant operations, and mechanical and electrical equipment and maintenance methods.
Demonstrated in-depth understanding of engineering and operations related financial and business skills including budgeting, accounting, utility economics, NPV, EBIT.
Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated project management and scheduling knowledge and skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
