DESCRIPTION
The Marketing and Public Relations Writer/Editor is responsible for writing copy for and editing all marketing materials as well as news releases and various communications and publications for the College.
This is a full-time position responsible to the Assistant Director of Public and Media Relations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Primary Responsibilities
Gathering information and writing editorial content about the College and its students, faculty, heritage, programs, and activities for use in a wide variety of marketing and promotional, print and electronic materials including, but not limited to, website, intranet, social media, magazines, brochures, pamphlets, and other booklets.Writing news releases – and distributing them to the media – promoting College activities, current events, and student and faculty accomplishments, (and posting those releases and accompanying photos to the College website).Proofreading, copy-editing, and monitoring content produced by other writers, including assisting with assuring that content on the public website, student and employee communications and in portal channels and groups is timely, appropriate, accurate, and consistent.Establishing and maintaining contacts with sources representing all facets of the College’s schools, programs, offices, and initiatives, both for information-gathering purposes and to identify appropriate individuals to represent the College in media interviews.Secondary Responsibilities
Assisting in response to media and public inquiries in a timely and efficient manner.Investigating and proposing new avenues for communicating with various audiences about the College, its students, faculty, and excellence.Taking photos – and, occasionally, video – for news releases or other media purposes as needed.Keeping media contacts list up-to-date.Attending events as assigned to gather information for news stories and/or to take photos.COMPETENCIES

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Required Experience
Two years of direct experience is required
Preferred Experience
