Position Summary
The Martin Center Desk Assistant serves as a vital member of the university community, providing essential support at the front desk of the University Center.
This role involves welcoming and assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with inquiries, information, and services.
The Desk Assistant plays a key role in maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the University Center, contributing to a seamless and efficient operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Answer phone calls to main line of university, the Division on Student Affairs, Residence Life, and Student Engagement.Accurately direct calls to the proper location or take messages for appropriate personnel.Provide prompt, friendly service to all customers (residents, staff, faculty, parents, and guests).Act as an information source about the department, the University, and the University Center.Communicate with one another and resume any tasks that were not completely during the previous shift.Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty and studentsParticipate in student leadership trainings, and meetings as specified by supervisor.Adhere to all university policies and guidelines.Encourage and support students, student organizations, departments, and academic programs, on events that benefit the student community and align with the college’s mission. Maintain minimum of 2.25 GPA

Customer service skills preferred.Spanish speaking preferred, but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated passion and support for all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, nationality and/or language.Excellent knowledge of the university, and university resources.Basic knowledge of proper customer service.Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA regulations.Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to balance collaborative and independent work.Excellent written, oral, social media-based and interpersonal communication skills.Basic knowledge in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.Ability to be a self starter who is detail oriented.Ability for a pleasant and clearly understandable phone voice.Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
