Job Description

You will be the Material Scientist – Dielectric Modeling for the Missiles & Fire Control Materials Team.

Our team drives the creation of next generation defense technologies by developing and integrating physics based computational models and atomistic simulations of advanced dielectric materials.

What You Will Be Doing
As the Material Scientist you will champion the design, simulation, and analysis of novel dielectric systems for cutting edge RF applications.

You will work hand in hand with geographically dispersed, interdisciplinary groups—experimentalists, system engineers, and external university partners—to turn complex, unstructured problems into actionable solutions that boost system performance.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Develop and execute high fidelity computational studies of electronic, ionic, and thermal transport, band structure, defects, doping, and field matter interactions in dielectric materials.
• Build and maintain automated simulation workflows and high performance computing pipelines; manage large scale data sets and ensure rigorous documentation.
• Integrate material level models into system level performance assessments, collaborating closely with RF engineers and system architects.
• Present findings and technical recommendations to senior technical stakeholders, program managers, and customers in clear, compelling formats.
• Publish peer reviewed research that advances the state of the art in dielectric material modeling for RF devices.
• Mentor early career engineers and scientists, fostering a collaborative, learning oriented environment.
• Partner with university research groups and external labs to leverage emerging science and expand our innovation ecosystem.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

Desired skills

- PhD in theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Applied mathematics, Materials Science, Material Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Excellent theoretical foundation in atomistic modeling within frameworks such as DFT molecular dynamics.
- Deep understanding of defects in crystalline and amorphous materials, with familiarity in spectroscopic techniques and tools used for their characterization.
- Fundamental knowledge of field-matter interactions, dielectric breakdown, and failure mechanisms under extreme environments.
- Ability to adapt and integrate different simulation tools and algorithms-such as phase-field, finite element, and finite difference methods-using platforms like COMSOL or MATLAB to rapidly evaluate material properties.
- Experience in applying ML/AI methods to accelerate materials discovery and property prediction is a plus.
- Have broad exposure to high power microwave applications and RF communications such as antenna design.
