Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Math Tutor on the Oconee campus.

This position will tutor all levels of math and statistics offered by the University.

Assist students and faculty with all services provided by the ACTT Center.


Responsibilities

  • Tutor all freshman, sophomore, and some 3000 levels of math offered by the University.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student workers and help train and mentor part-time staff.
  • Assist with the general operation of the tutoring center: check books and other materials in/out, help check students in/out of tutoring center, provide general information, make appropriate signage for Tutoring Center as needed, and assist in compiling end-of-semester statistical reports and data needed for the Annual Report.
  • Demonstrate the use of calculators, both graphing and non-graphing, and any software used in the math and statistics courses.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities and Tutoring Services promotional events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Services Director, Assistant Director, or Coordinator.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Two years of tutoring experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft software and graphing calculators.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in math or math education strongly preferred.

  • Degrees in statistics or physics also highly valued.

  • Master¿s preferred.

  • Proposed Salary

    Minimum Starting Salary: $38,147
