Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (2 positions)
Type: Long term Contract
Compensation: $56 - $95 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Remote

System One – Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (MCFR Program)
Location: Remote | Employment Type: Long-Term Contract

System One is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program and the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE).

This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Manager.

The role focuses on the design and analysis of mechanical systems—beginning with support of the non-nuclear MCRE Mockup and progressing toward ownership and delivery of MCRE hardware.

The engineer will collaborate with vendors, project engineers, and technical leads in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to deliver hardware for the first liquid-fueled, fast-spectrum reactor to be built and operated at Idaho National Laboratory.
Responsibilities
+ Coordinate input and requirements from the engineering and project teams to produce mechanical design solutions
+ Create 3D models of structures, systems, and components
+ Perform detailed mechanical analyses, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA)
+ Generate engineering drawings per ASME Y14.1 and Y14.5 standards
+ Develop design specifications, mechanical load descriptions, and related documentation
+ Provide input to design schedules and planning activities
+ Coordinate with vendors and review submittals
+ Present mechanical design results to key stakeholders

Qualifications
+ B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 3+ years
+ Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
+ Proficient in ANSYS (or similar FEA software) and SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software)
+ Proven experience delivering qualified hardware and supporting documentation
+ Knowledge of NQA-1 or ISO 9001 quality programs
+ Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
+ Demonstrated attention to detail and precision in design reviews
