Job description

Overview:



  • Holtec International is a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry.

  • Holtec is designing grid-scale energy systems to revolutionize the power industry.
  • We are seeking a Mechanical Components Estimator with an engineering or fabrication background.
  • A successful candidate will perform development of accurate and detailed cost estimates for the mechanical components of Holtec’s power plant technologies, including its flagship SMR-300 TM Small Modular Reactor (SMR), Holtec’s Concentrated Solar Power Plant (CSP), and Green Boiler TM molten salt energy storage system.
  • This estimator will be responsible for producing bottoms-up estimates, engaging with supply chains, and reviewing subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Candidates should be able to collaborate across engineering, procurement, and factory fabrication teams to ensure cost predictability and feasibility.
  • The role requires strong expertise in fabrication applications, including sequencing of subassemblies, welding processes, machining, and logistics.
  • Candidates will work closely with staff from Holtec’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to develop estimating methods, productivity data, and component estimates.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Cost & Schedule Estimating: Develop detailed cost estimates for the fabrication power plant components.

  • Evaluate material take-offs, supplier/vendor quotations, and subcontractor inputs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the scope of work and project requirements.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from estimates, cost data, indices, subcontracts, and other data to inform unit rates.
  • Work closely with engineering and fabrication staff for a well-understood fabrication plan for mechanical components and to inform process and equipment needs.
  • Organize and maintain a structured approach to managing cost data.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for estimate assumptions, methodologies, and data sources, consistent with industry best practices.

Data Analysis & Benchmarking:



  • Work with fabrication teams to develop estimate input data, including production rates of skilled labor categories, inspections and tests, and machines.

  • Conduct market research to gather cost benchmarks and trends.
  • Evaluate major assumptions, risks, and uncertainties associated with estimates.
  • Perform risk analysis, contingency planning, and sensitivity analysis to identify cost drivers and potential overruns.
  • Consolidate cost estimates into comprehensive financial models that support project budgeting, decision-making, and forecasting.

Project Stakeholder Collaboration:



  • Review and validate cost estimates provided by subcontractors, ensuring that all portions of work are accounted for and aligned with project specifications.

  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and project management teams to collect input and ensure alignment on scope.
  • Present cost estimates and schedule proposals to internal and external stakeholders, including project sponsors, regulatory agencies, and financial partners.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Weld Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication, application engineering, or similar roles.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and standards for cost estimation methodologies.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, including Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex cost data clearly to project stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate with fabrication staff to develop estimate data.
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. federal code 10 CFR 810.

Desirable Additional Qualifications:



  • Professional certifications such as Certified Estimator (CE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other related certifications are highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with welding processes and non-destructive examination techniques.
  • Familiarity with the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.

Prior experience in fabrication roles (welder, machinist, quality control, etc.) Salary Range:
