Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Product Development & Manufacturing

Location: Traverse City, MI

Overview:
A well-established, engineering-led manufacturer based in Traverse City, MI is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their product development and manufacturing team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a few solid years of experience who's ready to take the next step in their career.

You'll play a key role in the design and engineering of industrial products used across a variety of sectors.

The team is collaborative, hands-on, and focused on continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do:



  • Own mechanical designs from concept through production launch


  • Use SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools) to develop parts, assemblies, and drawings


  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, operations, and quality


  • Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs


  • Apply DFM/DFA principles and manage BOMs


  • Help drive continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives


  • Support new product introduction from concept through scale-up


  • Create detailed inspection plans, test procedures, and technical documentation


  • Troubleshoot design and production issues in collaboration with quality and operations


What We’re Looking For:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field


  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical/product design, preferably in a manufacturing environment


  • Familiarity with industrial or mechanical systems (machinery, capital equipment, etc.)


  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)


  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerances, BOMs, and engineering documentation

  • Work authorization: Must be fully authorized to work in the U.S. without needing sponsorship.

  • Bonus: experience with quality systems, inspection documentation, or metallurgy
