As a Mechanical Design Engineering intern, you’ll work directly with optical and electrical engineers to create system and component mechanical designs and prototypes.
Mechanical designs will require detailed tolerance analysis and the generation and testing of thermal designs for DMD chip and illumination sources to meet consumer and automotive requirements.
A typical finished project will be a prototype and/or EVM, often with direct customer engagement and/or placement on TI.com for broad market adoption.
Join our team and support DLP® Display & Performance projection markets with mechanical reference designs and proof-of-concept prototypes.
Interact with hardware and software design teams to assist in the overall development of the optical system.
System design areas include traditional projection, 3D scanning, head-mounted displays, 3D printing, spectroscopy, automotive headlights, and head-up displays (HUD).
Some of your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
+ Working directly with optical and electrical engineering teams to create system requirements.
+ Designing systems and components that house lenses and other optical components and provide the requisite degrees of freedom.
This includes, system layout, component design, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, manufacturability understanding, a drawing package, and final system assembly and testing utilizing various forms of optical metrology.
+ Detailed thermal design incorporating finite difference/ finite element design tools and 3D CAD design
+ Working effectively with all levels of DLP management, including field offices.
Effectively handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and thrive in a dynamic environment while meeting market window deadlines.
+ Communicating and work well in small teams.
+ Preparing presentations appropriate to the audience.
+ Representing the face of DLP/TI with direct and timely communication to customers, as well as internal supervision.
Example Projects and Deliverables:
Opto-Mechanical reference designs; analyze and evaluate prototype systems to assist customers in getting products to market.
This includes systems and opto-mechanical components.

**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
+ Cumulative 3.0/4.0 GPA or higher
**Preferred qualifications:**
+ SolidWorks/ Pro-E CAD design
+ Flowtherm thermal analysis tool or equivalent
+ Experience with optical systems and metrology
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
+ Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
+ Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
+ Working well in a team environment is imperative in this role.
+ Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships
+ Good listener and excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Proactive in acquiring the information needed to perform tasks.
