Job description

Vector's client located in Ashtabula, OH serves the construction, plumbing and excavation trades by providing them wit quality pipe tools.  They are on the hunt for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team!

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for engineering design, product innovation, and process improvement to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.

This role will work closely with Production, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service teams to ensure our products meet customer needs and are manufactured effectively.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and problem-solving to drive continuous improvement in our operations while maintaining a customer-focused and adaptable mindset.

The Mechanical Engineer will also work closely with the Senior Production Manager to align engineering solutions with production goals and mentor, teach, and nurture the next generation of engineers within the department.



Responsibilities:

Product Development & Design 

• Perform engineering duties for product development and product improvement from quality and design aspects. 

• Design, develop, and improve new and existing products to align with customer and market demands. 

• Conduct research and development (R&D) for innovative product enhancements and new product ideas. 

• Create and maintain engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation. 

• Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, and design technologies. 

• Ensure all designs meet industry standards, performance, and durability requirements. 

• Stay open-minded to new ideas, industry trends, and innovative solutions for product development. 

Manufacturing & Process Improvement 

• Support and improve production efficiency. 

• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, and automation. 

• Troubleshoot production challenges and implement engineering solutions. 

• Work closely with the Senior Production Manager to align engineering improvements with production strategies. 

• Teach, mentor, and nurture the next generation of engineers to develop their skills and expertise. 

Quality Control & Testing 

• Establish and oversee testing procedures for new and existing products. 

• Analyze product failures to identify issues and find ways to improve quality. 

• Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure material and component quality. 

• Maintain a customer-centric approach, ensuring all products exceed customer expectations in performance and durability. 

Technical Documentation & Support 

• Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, technical drawings, and specifications. 

• Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, sales, marketing, and customer service teams. 

• Assist in the development of parts and operation manuals, product brochures, and other collateral materials for products. 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement 

• Work with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service teams to ensure product designs meet cost and customer expectations. 

• Travel as needed to vendors, customers, and trade shows to gather insights for product development. 

• Support cross-functional teams in implementing process improvements and product innovations. 

• Foster a continuous improvement and positive culture, always seeking ways to enhance designs, processes, and efficiency. 

• Partner with the Senior Production Manager to ensure engineering changes integrate seamlessly with production operations. 

• Develop and guide junior engineers to ensure knowledge transfer and skill development. 

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. 



Requirements:

Education & Experience 

• Associate degree or BS in mechanical engineering or a related field. 

• 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, product design, or mechanical engineering. 

• Experience in tooling, machining, casting, or metal fabrication preferred. 

Technical Skills 

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other CAD software. 

• Strong understanding of design specifications, quality control methods, and material selection. 

• Hands-on experience with manufacturing and production processes. 

Soft Skills 

• Self-motivated, results-driven, and detail-oriented. 

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. 

• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities supported by facts and data. 

• Proficient in Microsoft 365 workflow tools.
