We have an immediate need for a Metallography Testing Technician.
This role will perform routine test preparation and examination of metallographic samples under the supervision of senior staff.
The selected candidate will be mentored by a senior technician and, once foundational preparation skills are mastered, will receive training in advanced analysis techniques such as hardness testing, microscopy, and image analysis.
Candidates must be comfortable working with and around hazardous chemicals.
Key Responsibilities
+ Select representative sample and prepare according to procedures appropriate for the sample properties.
This may include sectioning, mounting, polishing and etching samples.
+ Apply knowledge of metallurgical testing procedures, sample preparation techniques, and metallographic examinations.
+ Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of metallograph preparation and laboratory equipment.
+ Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory tools, equipment, and instruments to proper settings to ensure accuracy and reliability.
+ Conduct routine examinations using microscopes, hardness testers, and image analysis systems.
+ Follow established safety procedures to minimize occupational hazards when working with chemicals and equipment.
+ Accurately prepare, evaluate, and document metallurgical test results in laboratory systems.
Also utilize work order system to log usage and report data results.
+ Perform all duties while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, quality system and safety requirements.
+ Complete general lab housekeeping duties including cleaning, completing inventory, and ordering materials and consumables as needed.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as appropriate or as requested.
Basic Qualifications:
+ High school diploma required or certificate from technical school with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
+ Skilled and proven experience using a variety of standard hand tools.
+ Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
+ Communicate effectively with colleagues and maintain professional working relationships.
+ Candidate shall be reliable, cooperative, and willing to learn with an excellent work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Previous experience working in a metallographic laboratory or mechanical testing facility desirable.
Physical and Mental Demands:
+ Regularly or frequently talking, hearing, touching, grasping, standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms and performing repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.
+ Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
+ Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus to review test results.
Work Environment:
+ This position is in a climate-controlled environment and is safety and security sensitive.
+ Moderate noise level.
+ Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
+ Occasionally works with and around hazardous chemicals.
+ This position is safety sensitive.
