**Responsibilities:**
General Purpose
Conducts human function research and testing to enhance understanding of human movement, disability, and risk for musculoskeletal disorders.
Plans, designs, constructs and alters specialized equipment and instrument systems.
Conducts daily operations and performs a variety of technical duties in support of the clinical services and research activities at University of Rochester Medicine Motion Analysis Laboratory.
Develops code for clinical testing and the processing of signal data for electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG).
Works with laboratory equipment such as EMG, EEG, force plates, motion analysis systems, and wearable devices (inertial measurement units).
Works creatively with faculty, clinicians, residents, data scientists, and students to apply solutions to research problems, providing direct assistance, guidance and training on the use of laboratory equipment.
Job Description
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Performs daily clinical operations of disability and functional assessments.
+ Delivers daily clinical disability diagnostics.
+ Provides direct assistance to faculty and students in the preparation, testing, operation of electrical/electronic laboratory equipment such as motion capture system, in-ground force plate, EMG, EEG, and IMU.
+ Creates code for clinical testing and processes signals to produce clinical lab reports.
+ Maintains and manages all laboratory equipment and supplies including the motion capture system, in-ground force plate, electroencephalogram,electroencephalogram, and IMU.
+ Performs professional engineering tasks.
+ Resolves engineering problems and designs special equipment and instrument systems.
+ Develops code for clinical diagnostic testing, processing signal data.
+ Develops clinical reports utilizing motion laboratory equipment.
+ Develops assigned aspects of an investigation, plans experimental procedures, evaluates and validates data and reports findings.
+ Leads scientific research data collections in human biomechanics and athletic performance.
Leads data processing analysis, management, and reporting.
+ Develops and maintains procedures and software pipelines for data analysis, management, visualization, and reporting.
+ Participates in subject recruitment, data reduction, and overall preparation of data for analysis.
+ Develops and updates codes written in-house for a variety of disability and functional assessments.
+ Educates faculty and students in the overall operations of the laboratory facilities and equipment.
+ Continuously educates all individuals utilizing the Motion Lab on its contents.
+ Provides guidance in completing assigned projects and assisting faculty in the evaluation of student achievements in the laboratory.
+ Maintains an in-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art equipment and ensures that it is functioning at its optimal level while maintaining expertise in training and assisting with all technical aspects.
+ Prepares for researchers and clinicians to use the lab by ensuring that all laboratory functions are prepared, including the powering up and calibration of highly sophisticated equipment, the preparation of patient models for testing, and the reduction and analysis of patient data.

**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
+ A Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering and one year experience in biomechanics and/or previous research experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Masters degree preferred.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
+ Strong working knowledge of computers and system software in a Motion Lab setting required.
+ Ability to assemble, test, repair and operate electrical/electronic equipment required.
+ Knowledge of programming and the ability to solve complex physics/engineering problems required.
+ Knowledge of complex electromyography, kinematic and kinetic systems and associated software required.
+ Strong attention to detail, analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills required.
+ Interpersonal skills and an ability to work with the research team required.
