Position Overview



Position involves operating a motor grader to precisely level and shape earth materials within the job site.

Will also safely and efficiently operate various types of construction equipment including but not limited to Loaders, Back Hoes, Track Hoes, Haul Trucks, Etc.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.

  • Precisely level and shape materials by cutting, spreading, and finishing surfaces to achieve desired grade lines and cross-sections.
  • Efficiently operate heavy equipment including Haul Tuck, Water Truck, Dump Truck, Dredge, Track Hoe, Frontend Loader, and Skid Steer Loader, assisting foreperson and/or crew members as needed as requested by the Plant Manager/Superintendent/Foreperson.
  • Perform routine site and road maintenance including haul roads, pits, areas around installations and fixed assets.
  • Coordinate with other crew members.
  • Complete daily pre-shift and post-shift inspections and route maintenance on the grader including checking fluid levels, tire pressure and overall machine condition.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

  • Assist with miscellaneous duties include but not limited to; general labor, shoveling, performing necessary equipment maintenance.

  • Assist with the daily operations and upkeep of the plant.
  • Clean up around the plant, equipment, and surrounding area.
  • General understanding of OSHA & MSHA regulations.
  • Perform general maintenance on the equipment.
  • Work various shifts as necessary

    Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work Requirements

  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred.
  • Assist Laborers as needed.

    Perform physical tasks involved with laying pipe and utility lines, and/or tasks involved with road construction and laying asphalt, etc.
  • Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

    Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
