Job description

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a Motor Vehicle Operator (Title 32) (Permanent) (SSC), Position Description Number D1910000 and is part of the VA G4, National Guard.

Responsibilities As a Motor Vehicle Operator (Title 32) (Permanent) (SSC), WG-5703-09, you will perform the below duties: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s).

Possesses the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.

Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished.

Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements.

Devises and maintains all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.

Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.

Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.

May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.

Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit.

The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle; if so, and an appropriate valid driver's license is mandatory.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NOTE: Qualifications are based on breadth/level of experience.

NOTE: All job seekers will be required to limit their resumes to 2 pages in length when applying for job opportunity announcements (JOAs) WHO CAN APPLY: GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.

GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E7/SFC), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR).

To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.

GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Members (E4/SPC - E7/SFC) GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-08 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government.

This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated.

This experience must include activities such as: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds.

Experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches.

Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades.

Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.

Education Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)).
