We are hiring an Editor for the Yellow Sheet Report, to join our team located in Phoenix, Arizona.

As The Yellow Sheet Report Editor, You Will

  • Lead daily production of the Yellow Sheet Report, managing both content and tone.
  • Write and report original items, from scoops to summaries, with clarity, accuracy, and insight.
  • Edit and curate political intelligence from a variety of sources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with lawmakers, lobbyists, advocates, and statehouse staff.
  • Mentor reporters earlier in their career and contribute to building a collaborative newsroom culture.

    Edit their stories for the Yellow Sheet Report.
  • Work with editors and colleagues in other State Affairs markets to share best practices and collaborate on coverage.
  • Uphold nonpartisan, fact-based journalistic standards.

Essential Qualifications For This Position Include

  • 5+ years of professional work experience reporting or editing political/government news, preferably at the state level.
  • Prior professional work experience in breaking news, building sources, and writing with voice and authority to break news, build sources, and write with voice and authority.
  • Prior professional work experience managing or mentoring journalists.
  • Substantive ability to organize and edit content.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate to a wide range of people, from elected officials to first-time activists.
  • Knowledge of Arizona politics and policy.

Preferred Qualifications For This Position Include

  • Knowledge of newsletter platforms and audience engagement tools.
  • Knowledge of WordPress and other editorial software.

This is an in-office work opportunity located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

State Affairs offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package to employees.

The compensation range for this role as it is posted is $70,000 to $85,000 for candidates working from the State Affairs office in Phoenix, Arizona.

The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.
