NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members.

Major Functions To coordinate the editing and production of assigned NASW publications and work from other units.

Work activities are performed under regular supervision.
Responsibilities Basic Duties and Responsibilities Oversees the production of assigned NASW publications and works from other Association units from raw manuscript through bound book, including editing, proofreading, and page layout.
Provides work guidance to staff editors and coordinates the work assignments, schedules, and priorities of staff and freelance editors.
Oversees and monitors editorial deadlines and production schedules.
Edits assigned manuscripts for journals, books, and other NASW publications.

Reviews and rewrites manuscripts to meet NASW’s editorial specifications.
Proofreads manuscripts, galleys, and page proofs.

Makes necessary corrections.
Serves as a liaison between the Association and authors and/or contacts.

Prepares author correspondence.

Obtains clearances from and recommends editorial changes to assigned authors.
Serves as a staff resource to assigned NASW editorial committees.

Assists in responding to committee member requests.
Interprets and implements NASW’s editorial policies, practices, and procedures and recommends changes to same.
Recommends items to be included in the Publication unit’s annual operating budget.

Assists in establishing and implementing editorial program plans.
Coordinates the production of assigned NASW publications with vendors.

Serves as liaison between NASW and printers and suppliers.

Responds to vendor questions and inquiries.
Working Relations 1.

Internal: Interacts primarily with NASW’s Press staff to ensure the production of assigned publications accurately and in a timely manner.

External: Interacts with NASW Editorial Board members and staff of other NASW units to exchange general information and to prepare Association material for publications.

Interacts with authors, typesetters, printers, and freelancers to prepare material for publication.
Working Environment Work is performed in an office environment (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Minimum Work Requirements Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

In-depth knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Knowledge of book or journal editing and a working knowledge of production.
Experience: Requires three years of prior work experience.
Skills: Requires organizational and interpersonal skills; strong copyediting and proofreading skills; skill in layout and page makeup; and the ability to work under pressure and meet recurring deadlines.

Equivalent work experience equals one year or related work experience in place of each year of formal education above a high school diploma.
