Overview  

Utah State University seeks a highly collaborative, self-motivated, and experienced professional to play a key role in fulfillment of the Center for Community's purpose to cultivate goodwill and greater understanding on campus and within the communities the university serves.

The Native American Cultural Program Coordinator (Program Coordinator II) will play a key role in building community and cultural literacy within the campus and local communities by organizing cultural events and heritage celebrations, providing education and awareness opportunities, promoting engagement, and fostering intercultural relationships.

This position will lead efforts to plan, promote, and execute events and programs centered around Native American cultures, designed to bring people together to build community and learn from each other.

The Native American Cultural Program Coordinator will also serve as a vital link between the Center and the Native American communities, working to build strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners to create opportunities for cultural learning and engagement.

Responsibilities  

Program Coordination: Collaborate with the Center's leadership team to plan, coordinate, and promote events, activities, and workshops that align with the Center's mission to foster goodwill and understanding on campus and in the community.

Support team members in executing Center-led and co-sponsored events, ensuring seamless coordination.

Develop and implement Native American-focused programming that reflects cultural values, traditions, histories, contributions, and contemporary issues.

Serve as a primary liaison between students, faculty, and staff, facilitating community engagement and project collaboration.

Event Planning & Execution: Execute event logistics to support all programming efforts of the Center.

Organize and execute cultural events, programs, and heritage celebrations to promote Native American cultures and foster community on campus.

Events may include Indigenous Peoples' Day, Native American Heritage Month, powwows, guest speakers, and other cultural celebrations.

Ensure these events reflect the richness of Native American cultures and traditions.

Collaboration & Partnership Development: Collaborate with university departments, student groups, and community partners to create and promote opportunities to educate, celebrate, engage, and create awareness around Native American cultures.

Work with departments and student groups to integrate Native American perspectives into campus-wide events.

Outreach & Engagement: Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Build and maintain relationships with Native American tribes, leaders, and community organizations to foster collaboration and partnerships to create opportunities for cultural engagement and learning experiences.

Serve as a liaison between the university and Native American communities.

Represent the Center and the University in community meeting and events focused on Native American issues.

Marketing & Promotion: Develop marketing material and execute marketing strategies to promote Native American cultural events and programs.

Manage social media accounts, campus channels, and other communication platforms to increase awareness and participation in Native American engagement activities.

Supervision: Oversee the day-to-day operations for the Center for Community - Native American Cultural Program's physical spaces including resources, engagement, and involvement.

Recruit, train, and supervise student employees, interns, and volunteers to assist in Native American programming.

Offer leadership development opportunities for student employees and volunteers involved in planning and executing events.

Budget & Resource Management: Assist in managing the budget and resources dedicated to Native American programming.

Ensure efficient use of funds to support high-impact, sustainable, culturally relevant events.

Assessment & Reporting: Track and evaluate engagement metrics for Native American programs and events.

Prepare reports and recommendations for the Center's leadership outlining program impact and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications  

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's degree in event planning, intercultural studies, Native American studies, higher education, or a related field with 2 years of related experience in event planning, community outreach, or student engagement, with a focus on Native American cultures or diverse populations OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching, or supervising teams.

• Availability to occasionally work some late or weekend hours for special events or projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.

• Deep understanding and respect for Native American cultures, histories, traditions, values, contributions, and contemporary issues.

• Proven aptness to effectively manage operating budgets.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptive approach to a dynamic environment.

• Proficiency in social media and other marketing strategies to promote events and increase engagement.
