This Research Assistant Professor is to work in the Movement Disorders Division of the Department of Neurology.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. or an M.D. / Ph.D. from an accredited university in the Basic Sciences, Neuroscience, or other field relevant to human subject Movement Disorders research, at least two years postdoctoral experience, and a strong publication record.
The division would like to hire a candidate who has a background in cognitive neuroscience and computational methods, and a strong interest in basal ganglia disorders and applied human voltammetry.
Robust mentorship will be provided from faculty at the University of Miami in collaboration with Wake Forest University.
The candidate will be key personnel on an NIH-funded project assaying in vivo dopamine and serotonin signaling during decision making using the Parkinson’s disease brain as substrate.
Additional expectations will include being an effective collaborator within our multidisciplinary and multi institutional research team, manuscript preparation, supervision and mentoring of trainees, and eventual submission for independent grant funding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To collaborate with researchers involved in translational basic science and clinical research activities to advance the research goals of the group.
These include to study neurotransmitter effects on time perception, impulsivity, and decision making in the Parkinson’s-affected brain.
Develop appropriate and detailed research protocols in compliance with all Federal and Institutional regulations.
Disseminate findings at international meetings and through peer-reviewed journals.
Appointee is expected to have achieve national recognition in their field as evidenced by publications in quality journals and presentations at national meetings as well as by being awarded grants from federal and private organizations.
Obtain Institutional, State, and Federal funding to support this research.
Preparation of progress reports and data entry.
Mentor and train undergraduates, medical students, or residents in projects that support the laboratory goals and research.

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):
Ph.D. or M.D. / Ph.D. At least two years of postdoctoral experience in neurological research.
Evidence of dissemination of new research information.
Strong publication record and success in individually funded grant awards is preferred.
Any relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered.
