Job description

What You Will DoAs a Project Leader at our renowned national laboratory, you will have the opportunity to lead complex, multidisciplinary projects that are critical to our mission.

Leveraging your expertise in non-science and non-engineering disciplines, you will oversee the successful completion of projects within approved scope, schedule, and budget.

You will work collaboratively with program and line managers to secure resources, manage procurement and contracting needs, and ensure seamless integration with other laboratory priorities, including safety, security, and compliance.

Your strong leadership skills will be essential in guiding your team through the planning, tracking, and execution of project plans from start to finish.

This role is an integral part of our organization, driving innovation and progress in support of our vital work.

The Project Leader 5 is accountable to the PT Division Leadership team and is expected to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and maintain compliance in a high-stakes environment.

These skills will directly contribute to the success and stability of our operations.

This Project Leader 5 will be expected to ensure expertly implemented projects including the ALDWP JOWOG39-3 UK Assignment Program and other projects.

The Project Leader 5 is accountable for the following: demonstrated expertise in nuclear operations, program and project management and personnel supervision.

Using specific knowledge about one or more areas to research, plan, collaborate, communicate, and achieve objectives.

The Project Leader 5 will also recommend changes to improve processes and alleviate process inaccuracy and duplication.

The necessary functions include Strategy efforts, lifecycle management, and assessments of probability-of-success.

The Project Leader 5 has a direct line management responsibility to draw upon staff from PT groups to assist in managing the planning, tracking, and execution of assigned program(s)/project(s) to ensure a positive, professional learning experience for program participants.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of project management principles, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages
  • Ability to manage large, complex projects and take corrective action, monitor work, manage conflict, and coordinate the activities of multidisciplinary teams
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory and laboratory requirements related to the assigned project
  • Consultative experience in building and nurturing effective high-level internal and/or external customer relationships
  • Proven track record of successfully planning, organizing, leading, and monitoring a wide variety of team efforts to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels, build trust, gain consensus, and resolve conflicts.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience working in a national laboratory or similar research and development environment
  • Active security clearance (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Training/Certifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.

    All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.

    If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.

    The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
