Job Description

The Construction Science Program seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants for potential employment in future Adjunct Instructor positions at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU).

This is a non-tenure track, part-time (less than 50% effort) position, and responsibilities are limited to teaching the courses listed in this posting.




What you need to know


Salary: Compensation is on a per-course basis and based on factors such as academic discipline, faculty credentialing, experience, etc.

Minimum pay is commensurate depending on education and experience.


Selected applicants for the current academic year may teach up to 7 undergraduate/graduate level Semester Credit Hours (SCH) in an assigned semester (less than 50% FTE), within the required discipline, as dictated by student demand during the available semester(s).


Consideration will be given to applications as curricular and student needs arise in the department.

Adjunct positions are temporary appointments, assigned per semester, and on an as-needed basis.


Responsibilities:

· Teach up to 7 undergraduate/graduate SCH per semester (less than 50% FTE)

· Maintain and manage student records

· Post grades (assignments, mid-term & final) in a timely manner

· Submit attendance reporting

· Mentor and assist students

· Post and maintain office hours for a minimum of three (3) hours per week

· Attend student class orientation as needed (if required by the hiring department)

· Attend clinical/simulation/studio meetings as needed (if required by hiring department)

· Other duties as assigned by the department head


Faculty Credentialing Requirements:

· Undergraduate Level: Faculty teaching baccalaureate courses require a doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate SCH in the teaching discipline).

· Graduate Level: Faculty teaching graduate and post-baccalaureate coursework require an earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

· Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level.

· Knowledge of online learning management systems.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.

· Sufficient knowledge of the subject area being taught.

· Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences.

· Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems.

· Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, staff, and community members.

· Ability to use virtual technology and related software to support online teaching (if required by the hiring department).


Additional Posting Information

This is a general-purpose, adjunct faculty pool for use across multiple disciplines.

Applicants in this pool may or may not be selected for employment for the current academic year.

This pool will remain open until all adjunct vacancies have been filled.

All completed applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Candidates selected for interviews will be contacted by the department as open positions become available.


If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may withdraw your application from the pool.

This position will be closed at the end of the current academic year, and you will receive an email notification if you are not selected.

A new application is required each academic year to demonstrate your continued interest.
