About the Department
TheRN-to-BSN program (https://wce.wwu.edu/rn-bsn) was established in 2013 and received a full, 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in June 2020.
In early 2022, Western's nursing program gained support from the Washington legislature, securing annual state funding for the RN-to-BSN program and the new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs, which offer two specialty tracks: Nursing Leadership & Administration and Nursing Education.
Our mission is to support nurses in our region and across the state, particularly in underserved areas, who wish to advance their professional education and contribute to the well-being of communities within a rapidly evolving healthcare system.
The hybrid nursing program is tailored for nurses living far from the Bellingham main campus, allowing them to participate through online and in-person learning.
We collaborate with community colleges to strengthen educational pathways and provide on-site practical experiences at diverse healthcare facilities throughout Washington State.

About the PositionThe Nursing Program maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary, part-time teaching positions in either the RN-to-BSN or MSN programs.
In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer quarter, applications are accepted continuously for non-tenure track teaching positions.
Positions in the rank of Instructor may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.
Courses are face to face hybrid instruction; Clinical Practice Experience Instructors will travel to practice partner sites.
Required Qualifications
+ Master’s degree from an accredited institution in nursing or health related field
+ RN Licensure in Washington State
+ Potential for successful University teaching
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse social identities and backgrounds, including a commitment to cultivating equitable and inclusive learning environments for all students
+ Health and certification requirements
Preferred Qualifications
+ Earned doctorate in nursing, education or health related field with at least one graduate degree in nursing (masters or doctorate)
+ Successful teaching experience in higher education
+ Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with community practice partners
+ Commitment to the WWU mission and Institute of Medicine recommendations on the future of nursing
+ Experience with instructional technology
