Job Summary

Two positions available

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina invites applicants for an assistant/associate/full, tenure track, (9-month) faculty position.

The faculty member will be responsible for developing and maintaining an independent, extramurally funded program of research within their area(s) of expertise and to maintain a teaching load of two courses per year.

The individual will share research space within the Department.

They will also be responsible for contributing to service to the Department and University and in their field.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders hosts an active and collaborative research faculty and clinical faculty, with existing strengths in child language and literacy, dysphagia, aphasia, neurodevelopmental disorders, hearing loss, cochlear implants, voice, multilingualism, and neurodegenerative disease.

Our faculty have strong ties with community entities including local public and private schools, Prisma Health, the local VA hospital, as well as with research groups across the university, including:· Aging Brain Cohort USC Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Center of Excellence Institute for Mind and Brain (McCausland Center for Brain Imaging (Center for the Study of Aphasia Recovery (C-STAR; USC Brain Health Network (Prevention Research Center CAA-accredited speech-language pathology masters degree program (in two modalities, on-campus and via distance-learning) as well as a PhD program.

We offer a low teaching load to support faculty in developing and maintaining their research programs.

The Department is housed within the Arnold School of Public Health, which hosts a highly active and interdisciplinary research community, with over $59 million in extramural funding garnered in .

Required Education and Experience A PhD or equivalent research doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related discipline Psychology, Education) is required.

Concurrent academic experience is highly preferred.

Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor must also have demonstrated evidence of high-quality scholarly research, the potential to successfully compete for external research funding, teach graduate-level courses, and collaborate with other researchers, including clinical researchers.

Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor must be accomplished scholars with years of experience in research, teaching, and service commensurate with academic policy and: 1) a substantial publication record in top-tier journals, 2) a record of securing research grants from national and international funding agencies, 3) a history of successful graduate student supervision, and 4) the leadership skills necessary to mentor junior faculty and students, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the university.

Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with clinical, research, or teaching expertise in the areas of stuttering, speech science, or motor speech disorders and who have a strong record or promise of extramural funding.
