Open Rank Assistant/Associate (Exercise Physiology)



Job description

Potential applicants should have a strong interest in developing impactful collaborative opportunities within the Department, across the College of Arts and Sciences, and across the greater UNC community that may include the School of Medicine, School of Data Science and Society, and Gillings School of Global Public Health.

The interest areas of the applicant should align with and complement the faculty who support the mission of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and the Human Movement Science PhD program.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, establish, and develop a focused independent research agenda

  • Seek extramural funding to support research efforts

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Exercise and Sport Science and across campus to support and develop multidisciplinary research 

  • Serve as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students across a varied student population

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Exercise and Sport Science related to exercise physiology and/or other classes aligning with the candidate’s expertise as requested by the department Chair

  • Serve as a research advisor and/or committee member for undergraduate and master’s students in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science

  • Participate as a core faculty member and contribute to mentoring doctoral trainees in the Human Movement Science doctoral program

  • Participate in departmental and university service and governance functions

  • Perform these, and other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the department Chair, in a collegial and respectful manner.

  • Demonstrate contributions to a positive workplace culture
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • An earned doctorate PhD, DSc, etc.) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, Human Movement Science, or a related field.

    All doctoral degree requirements must be completed by the position start date 

  • Record of, or strong potential for, securing extramural research funding and/or experience working on extramurally funded projects

  • Demonstrated expertise and record of research publications in areas of Exercise Physiology 

  • Collegiate-level teaching experience

  • In addition to the above, candidates at the Associate Professor rank should also demonstrate a consistent record of securing research funding and have the skills and experience to contribute to leadership efforts that will advance scholarly excellence within the Exercise Physiology concentration and across the Department of Exercise and Sport Science.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Record of research advising and/or mentoring

  • Two or more years of post-doctoral training or experience in a tenure track position at the time of the appointment
