Job description

**Open Rank Faculty Position in Philosophy of Physics**

The Department of Philosophy at Stanford University seeks applicants for a junior or senior appointment at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenured Associate Professor, or Full Professor.

The preferred area of specialization is Philosophy of Physics.

We understand physics broadly to include applications of ideas and methods from the physical sciences to the study of complexity, information, social systems, and other domains.

Applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring and the ability to maintain a world-class research program.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a related field and will be expected to teach and advise students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2026.

Candidates should apply through Stanford Faculty Positions and submit
● a cover letter
● curriculum vitae (including a publication list)
● a teaching statement
● a research statement

Candidates will also be asked to provide the names of three references, who will be contacted as follows:
● References for non-tenured applicants will be contacted for a letter upon submission of the application.
● References for applicants who are currently tenured may be contacted for a letter at a later stage in the application process.

The salary range for this position in academic year 2025-2026 is:
Assistant Professor: $111,240 - $130,810
Associate Professor: $124,630 - $154,500
Professor: $144,200 - $247,200

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position.

The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
