Position Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician works alongside an Ophthalmologist to perform eye exams, diagnose diseases, and administer treatments.
Perform an extensive number of data collection functions delegated by the physician to allow for proper medical and professional diagnosis of patients.
Other general office duties including but not limited to answering phones, patient scheduling, exam room preparation, and patient documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ American Heart Association BLS
+ Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or obtain within one year of employment
+ Preferred: Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
+ Preferred: One (1) year of patient care experience
Essential Job Functions: In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
+ Answer and return phone calls from current patients, potential patients, or outside providers specific to the ophthalmology department.
+ Receive and send confidential patient information, including medical records and insurance approvals.
+ Proficient use of the electronic medical record system for patient encounter documentation.
+ Room patients and initiate patient eye exams, including medical history documentation and vision screening.
Prepare patients for exams with ophthalmologist.
+ During patient visits, ensure up-to-date patient medical records, including past medical history, relevant family history, allergies, social history, current patient medications.
+ Refract patients in need of updated glasses prescriptions; over-refractions for patients currently in contact lenses.
+ Perform diagnostic testing and imaging, including visual field testing, OCT imaging, automated refractions, corneal topography, biometry, and retinal photography within the scope of certification and as assigned by Ophthalmologist.
+ Prepare and assist Ophthalmologist with in-office procedures, including intravitreal injections, eyelid biopsies, eyelid lesion excisions, and foreign body removal within the scope of certification and as assigned by Ophthalmologist.
+ Assist in scheduling patients for outpatient surgery.

+ Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work while meeting multiple deadlines
Physical Requirements
+ Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: Support 50 pounds of weight (patient, assist with bedside needs, etc.) Lift 50 pounds (pick up a child, transfer a patient, etc.) Carry equipment/supplies.
Use upper body strength (CPR, physically restrain patient, etc.)
+ Extended Hours: The role may involve working for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.
+ Flexible Schedule: The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
+ On-Call Availability: On-call work may be required to respond to organizational and patient needs promptly.
+ Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.
+ Handling Challenging Situations: The role may involve dealing with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients or families.
+ Repetitive Tasks: Ability to perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
