Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary This job is a permanent, part time, non-benefited position as an Environmental Educator at Burton 4-H Center located on Tybee Island, Georgia.

The primary responsibility is to independently lead K- grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting.

Class subjects offered include life and earth science, ecology, and marine science.

Other responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations of the facility.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability.

  • Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K- grade youth.

  • Broad knowledge of outdoor education and able to work in an outdoor setting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work with and care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others).
  • Physical Demands
  • Work when exposed to outdoor elements including but not limited to adverse physical and weather conditions.

  • Lift - pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily.

  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.

  • Independently lead K- grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting for 1-2 or 3-day field studies.

  • Class subjects offered include both life and earth science, survival skills, team building, high-and low-ropes challenges, and pioneer living skills.

  • Teaches classes, and implements new, innovative, academic, and research based curriculum and classes in keeping with state and national standards.

  • Maintenance and cleanup of facilities and grounds.

    General support of overall center operations:
    Office and reception work
    Scheduling school and conference group visits
    Working in the dining hall or kitchen as needed

    Housekeeping duties
    Drive buses for group programming
