Schedule: M-F Day Shift
Pay Range: $3200-$3500/week; Max GSAs, plus airfare, rental car or personal vehicle stipend/mileage

Position Summary: Under general supervision of a pathologist, independently performs or assists in accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens and occasional hospital autopsy cases.
Assists on and processes both histological and cytological specimens and aids with supervisory functions of the anatomical pathology department.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree, Masters degree preferred.
- Degree in biomedical or health sciences preferred.
- Completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists Assistant program required.
- Candidate with certification as HT, HTL, or Cytology experience preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical Pathology: Preparation, gross description and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens including:
- Assuring appropriate specimen accessioning.
- Obtaining pertinent clinical information and history, including scans, x-rays, laboratory data etc.
- Describing gross anatomic features of surgical specimens, preparing tissues for histological processing, obtaining biological samples such as blood, tissue and toxicological material for studies such as flow cytometry, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, etc., and performing special procedures including tumor triage.
- Photographing all appropriate gross specimens.
- Performing specialized gross procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification
- Performing histologic processing (paraffin infiltration, embedding, microtomy and staining).
- Performing special stains.
- Assisting on Bone Marrow procedures.
- Performing annual reviews of Surgical Pathology Procedure Manual.
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
- Autopsy Pathology Low volume! 0-2 annually on average.
Assisting with postmortem examination, including:
- Review of medical record/charts.
- Special techniques and procedures to be utilized in the completion of examination (cultures; histochemical, immunofluorescence, toxicological, viral or electron microscopic studies, etc.), and notifying all personnel directly involved.
- Assisting the attending pathologist with external examination; in situ organ inspection; evisceration; dissection and dictation or recording of data such as organ weights, presence of body fluids, gross anatomic findings, etc.
- Selecting, preparing and submitting appropriate tissue sections.
- Obtaining biological specimens such as blood, tissue and toxicological material for special studies.
- Photographing the body, organs, microscopic slides and other pertinent materials.
- Performing duties related to administrative maintenance of morgue / autopsy protocols.
- Assuring the proper maintenance of morgue/autopsy equipment and the provision of adequate supplies.
- Performing annual reviews of Autopsy Procedure Manual.
Supervisory/additional duties
Assisting with bedside or clinic cytology procedures (FNA, CT guided biopsies)
Processing specimens, slide prep, staining, distribution.
Inventory management, performance evaluations, QA/QC oversight, CAP readiness.
